The Controllables Worksheet

Players often lose games mentally before they make a physical error because they are focused on things they cannot control (the umpire, the crowd, the pitcher's velocity). This worksheet forces them to shift their focus back to their own effort, attitude, and preparation—the only things that actually dictate performance.
Hand this out on the bus ride or before batting practice to help athletes lock in their focus.
Use it to help the team reset mentally after a game where emotions got the best of them.
If a player is struggling at the plate, use this to simplify their mindset back to controllables.
Have them complete it before a 1-on-1 meeting to guide your conversation.
"Guys, we spend hours taking ground balls and hitting in the cage, but how much time do we spend training our focus? Today, we are going to identify exactly what is holding you back mentally. If you are worried about the umpire, the crowd, or striking out, you are giving away your power. This worksheet is going to help you take that power back by focusing only on what you can control."
